A Weekend Trip To KL Tower Mini Zoo & KL Upside Down House

by - September 27, 2017

Last Saturday, my family and I had a short trip to KL Tower Mini Zoo and KL Upside Down House. The only time that we can spend time together going places is over the weekend. I’ve been working in Kuala Lumpur for more than 10 years and yet don’t even know these places existed. Mini Zoo and Upside Down House is located not far away from Bukit Nanas and just walking distance from The Weld, quite close by to my office at Menara Dion.

The first place that I went was #MenaraKL Mini Zoo. The Mini Zoo is situated several steps away from the bus stand. We were walking along the pedestrian path and there it was, just right at our left hand side. Visitors actually can take the elevator up to level 1 where payment and registration counter located. There are a few packages available for any person travelling with family. We have then selected the basic package: Mini Zoo, XD Theatre and The Upside Down House (“Rumah Terbalik”).

Payment charged to us was RM180 for 2 adults and 2 kids (aged 4 and 6 years old). My kids were the happiest of all when it’s time to visit the Mini Zoo. The facilities provided for the Mini Zoo were acceptable compared to any other mini zoos in the country. There were animals such as alligator, fox, snakes, monkey, parrot and etc. We also had a chance to experience the petting zoo. My kids were so thrilled to play around with the guinea pigs. One of the visitors called them “The pigs of Papua New Guinea” (ha-ha!).

We also stopped by at the ‘Longkang Fishing’ area. There were small fishing nets and buckets for kids to do the fishing. We could see small fishes swimming around in the drain (“longkang”) and couldn’t stop teasing or trying to catch them with the nets. Feeling exhausted, we stopped for a drink at the Pizza restaurant which was located on the first floor. We have decided to buy drinks only considering we were still full that time (we have taken heavy lunch in the afternoon, fried rice with mint tea).

For your knowledge, a small bottle of mineral water priced at RM6, double the price we can get at any grocery stores. For 4 persons, I have at least wasted RM16 for only drinks (duh!). So, better prepare your own water bottle guys, for cost-saving measures.

Then, we marched to the XD Theatre. We felt frustrated for waiting like 20 minutes just to enter it. The officer in charge was not around at the entrance counter, so we’re wondering where he went to (diarrhea maybe?). Truthfully, the overall XD movie experience is quite okay or should I say, ‘average’ since the specs provided were not of good quality at all. The graphic looked blurred and pixelated due to the bad quality of specs.

By the way, please note that only the following persons are not allowed to enter the XD Theatre:
  •          Pregnant ladies
  •          Person with bad heart condition/disease
  •          Child under 6 years old
Since my son was only 4 years old, he has been given a static seat (originally the seat was not functioning but now reserved for any child under 6 years old – maybe). In the meantime, he can wear the XD specs for free – yay!

Our last destination was the KL Upside Down House. The XD Theatre is just 5 minutes walking distance from KL Upside Down House. Advisably, enter the house after 4 pm to avoid long queue and large crowds. We tried to enter the house around 2 pm but was told by the counter receptionist to wait for 1 hour. We have to postpone the trip to 4 pm then and switched to the Mini Zoo instead.

There were several ushers greeted and welcomed us to the house. They even taught us on how to take beautiful and interesting pictures around the house. There were a few tips and tricks in order to get memorable Instagram pictures. The most interesting part was all the furniture and décor fitted to the house were upside down! We felt as if we’re walking on the ceiling and not on the floor. Check out below information about the house.
