Stay back or Go Back on Time?

Which one is better, stay after office hours or go back on time?

I prefer go back on time. What is the use of staying back after office hours if it requires plenty of time where we can use it for other mean such as being with family and loved ones? Most of the employers often look at employee who is willing to work overtime.
My presumption is the physical appearance normally attract people because of it is more obvious rather than measuring employee performance by KPI (Key Performance Indicator). I am not sure whether staying back after office hours may be determine as one of KPI elements. I do not agree the current practical that employer often see it as one of the factor. Staying in a developing country such as Malaysia, I think the essence of an organization is to prioritize the level of efficiency in every individual. Be it executive, manager or dispatch, it is immense that an employee able to complete his task within the office hours. The ability to resolve issues and completing tasks in stipulated time is one of the efficiency indicators that shows how good the employee can cope with stress and manage his time well without the necessary to delay the timeline on a specific day. In addition, there is fact about the expenses of capital on infrastructure basically to bear the usage after office hours. Let say at office hours, an organization with 1000 employees putting aside budget for electricity, air-cond and water for operation purpose (let say RM6,000/hr. So, 8 hrs x RM6,000 = RM48,000). However, due to 100-200 employees stay back after 6pm to clear the backlog of their tasks, the company has to bear the same expenses for another 2-3 hours everyday (RM48,000 + RM12,000 (extra) = RM60,000 . If the company has the measure for efficiency on energy and so forth, it can save up to RM720,000 on infra bill for a year. In term of productivity, employee that stays back after office hours didn’t mean produces high productivity. Certain individual can do more in a day while others cannot. So, I believe that companies/ organizations that observe this physical appearance after office hours in appraising an employee are not acceptable. Furthermore, what’s the use of giving away recognition to the employee who likes to dilly-dally his everyday task and then extend the hours just to let people see how hardworking they are?
